President's Message - Spring 2022

Posted on Tuesday, May 31, 2022

My three years as ARCS Colorado President will end at our June meeting when Susan Howard takes over the reins as president.  When I started in 2019, I had little idea of the details of the job, so I started learning more about the workings of our chapter and how we interact with ARCS National.  Just as I was getting comfortable, COVID turned everything on its head.  ARCS, along with our scholars and universities, pivoted to virtual meetings and events.  We all had much to learn, but I am so impressed by everyone who rose to the challenge.  As a result, ARCS Colorado thrived!

In the past three years, ARCS Colorado has held two virtual Scholar Recognition Events, twelve virtual Meet and Greets, and two successful Fund Drives by mail.  We have sponsored 138 scholars.  I am delighted that we were able to host our annual Spring Gala in- person this May and thrilled that it was the most successful ever!  Thank you to Sonnie Talley, Joan Obert and the Gala committee who devoted so much time to creating a memorable event.  I would also like to thank our Honorees, Mr. Earl Wright and Dr. Angel Abbud-Madrid for their inspiring words and time they have devoted to ARCS Colorado.

As a result of the efforts of our members and generosity of our donors, ARCS Colorado will be matching donations this year to increase our scholar awards from $6,500 a year to $7,500.  We continue to make a difference in the lives of our scholars.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me over the past three years.  Our chapter is fortunate to have so many experienced and talented women; I am grateful for your support and enthusiastic contributions to ARCS.  With the addition of the many new members who have joined ARCS, our chapter is well positioned to thrive for years to come.
