President's Message - Spring 2021

Posted on Monday, May 10, 2021

Science saved the day in 2020, and I feel that ARCS played a role!  Over the years, our chapter has funded scholars from all branches of science and it took all of them to get through the past year—doctors who cared for patients, researchers who developed testing and vaccines, computer scientists who allowed us to connect and work from our homes, engineers who designed air filtration and countless more.  Supporting today’s scientists not only helps them; it helps us all.

Once again, we are unable to hold a Gala to raise funds for our scholar awards.  We will once again be soliciting your contributions through a mail drive.  I hope you will join me in supporting forty-six scholars, many who are returning scholars this fall.

Our board voted to postpone the Annual Meeting until later this summer in the hope that we may be able to hold this luncheon in person.  We continue to monitor meeting guidelines and will send updates as the summer progresses.  Membership renewals are still due by June 30th—look for your renewal card coming in the mail soon!

We know that you will join us in acknowledging and celebrating the May 4th announcement from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus that the Center for Women’s Health Research has been named for the Ludeman family. As our long-time member Lyda Ludeman said, “It was important to have my family name associated with the Center because they all played a part in making this gift possible.”  Lyda has been a board member since joining ARCS in 2004 and established an annual ARCS scholar award with the medical school in 2010.  “My family has always been interested in science, research and mentoring, and I look forward to establishing a closer link between the Center and ARCS.”
