ARCS Colorado recognized a record 49 new scholars at the 2019-2020 Scholar Luncheon hosted by the University of Colorado Boulder in November.  As is usual, both the accomplishments and personalities of this outstanding group of scholars were brought to life by our long-time emcee, Jim Benneman.  We congratulate our scholars and are honored to play a role as they continue in their research and eventual careers.
At the luncheon, this year’s ARCS honoree, Dr. Angel Abbud-Madrid, offered words of inspiration and encouragement to our scholars.  Dr. Abbud-Madrid earned the NASA Astronauts’ Personal Achievement Award for his contributions to the fire suppression system used on the Space Shuttle.  He currently serves as the Director of the Center for Space Resources at the Colorado School of Mines.  His engaging speech also served as a preview of what promises to be a memorable evening at the Gala in May.
We are already looking forward and making plans for welcoming and supporting our next class of scholars.  Bolstered by the addition of seven new members since the beginning of last summer, our chapter remains vibrant.  I encourage everyone, both new and longtime members, to commit their time and treasure to supporting our scholars.  Please consider attending a board meeting, volunteering for the Gala, serving on a committee, becoming an officer or sponsoring a scholar.  Your efforts make it possible for our chapter to support many of Colorado’s best, brightest, and most deserving young scientists.
Looking forward to seeing you at the Gala!
