Posted on Monday, February 3, 2020

The ARCS Colorado Chapter lost a very dear friend on December 2nd when Nancy Wright passed away at her home in Castle Rock. Nancy’s commitment, service and support to the Colorado ARCS chapter spanned thirty years and many roles. She served as Chapter President from 1993—1994, followed by a term on the ARCS National Board of Directors and many chapter positions including Director at Large.
Nancy was born in Greenville, South Carolina and grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where her family was involved in the Lincoln newspaper and had strong commitments to the betterment of the community. Nancy’s service to her community began as a hospital “Pink Lady” working at a mental health institution and eventually included PEO and the Junior Leagues of Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Long Beach and Denver. She had a passion for education that included starting “Reading is Fundamental” for rural Indiana children and service on the Columbus Indiana Library Board. While living in Palos Verdes, California, Nancy volunteered for the Los Angeles Symphony and was on the board of the Switzer Education Center for challenged children.
Upon moving to Littleton, Colorado in 1978 Nancy continued her League and PEO activities and became involved in ARCS.  Her love of ARCS and her commitment to supporting science scholars became a family affair enthusiastically supported by her husband, Earl.  Over the years Nancy and Earl have befriended and mentored a “family” of 29 individual scholars, four of whom received 2-year awards and one of whom benefited from a 3-year award.   In recognition of Nancy’s dedication to ARCS the family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory be made to ARCS.
