ARCS Light Award Winners

The ARCS Light Award is a distinctive honor awarded to a member who has given the highest quality of long-term service to ARCS Foundation. One ARCS Light may be chosen by her Chapter each year, though there is no requirement that the award be given every year.

The ARCS Light is honored at the Chapter’s annual meeting and at the ARCS Foundation National Annual Meeting.

A candidate for the ARCS Light Award must have been an active member for at least three years, have served on a variety of committees as well as on the Chapter Board, have given continuous service that has had a positive impact on the ARCS Foundation, have demonstrated a willingness to serve, have respect for ARCS Foundation leadership and membership, and be an exemplary representative of ARCS Foundation to her fellow members and to the community.

Colorado Chapter ARCS Light 2019-2020

Sue Zoby

Not long after relocating from Pennsylvania to Denver, Sue Zoby was introduced to ARCS by longtime member Ann Lowdermilk. She joined the Colorado Chapter in 2014 and was quickly pressed into service as bookkeeper and later as assistant treasurer. For  three  years  she  has  written and compiled scholar profiles for the Chapter’s annual Scholar Luncheon. Sue’s knowledge of our scholars’ accomplishments and personalities proved invaluable at the 2018 ARCS Scholar Luncheon  where, at a moment's notice, she was pressed into emergency service as the event emcee. True to her nature, she handled the crisis with skill, grace and her characteristic good humor.

Sue has been involved in education for decades, serving as directress of a Montessori preschool, the principal of a Lutheran elementary school, and later as a high school cross country and track and field coach. Realizing    she had a knack for assisting her student athletes with college placement, Sue completed college counseling certification from UCLA. She currently works as an independent educational consultant helping students and families navigate the college selection and application process. In addition to her private client base, Sue regularly volunteers with the Denver Public School system’s Denver Scholarship Foundation to provide individualized college placement services to high achieving students from underserved backgrounds.

A life-long runner, Sue has completed numerous triathlons and The Boston Marathon, however, her proudest accomplishments are her happy and successful three adult children and two stepchildren.

Recently, while on vacation in Morocco, Sue dutifully responded to an email and found herself being asked to consider serving  as ARCS  Colorado Chapter President. Surprising even herself by saying “yes,” she now looks forward to her newest ARCS challenge in her new role as president.
